Birthday Shades
It's been quite a week. Some notables --
Helen has been talking about angels non-stop since going to Cirque. She knows that angels fly in the sky and has been trying to spot one ever since. In talking about angels one night, she informed me of all the other things that are "in the sky" and launched into a list that included stars, the moon, birds, and airplanes... It is so cool to see her undertanding concepts behind the words.
Pockets have become an obsession. It is very cute to see her walking around with her hands in her pockets and to see what objects ends up in them. We had a funny moment the other day when she demanded to wear her tutu, and then wanted to know where the pockets were. I tried to explain that a tutu is not exactly a utilitarian outfit!
Counting in the bathtub... (Mama) "One, Two, Three... Helen, what comes after three?" (Helen) "Cuatro". Ah, my multi-lingual babe!
Last and most importantly we had our first "I love you". We recently bought Helen the Big Bird Goes to China DVD. In it, they use some basic Chinese phrases including I love you -- "Wo ai ni". As we put Helen to bed after seeing the program for the first time, we showered her with the standard I love you's, to which she responded, "Wo ai ni" with big hugs for both of us. We were speechless (and tearful).
